Gnome-terminal Disappears?

  I completely reinstalled my Linux (RedHat 6.0) box, upgraded back to
OctoberGnome from the rpms. Now whenever I try to run gnome-terminal as
an ordinary user it pops up and vanishes, without an error message. It
seems like a rights problem but when I check the rights of the file in
/usr/bin it says world executable. What am I missing?  Thanks!
