MDI and status bar

  If I'm sending this to the wrong list, I apologize and ask for
notification.
  I'm using a Gnome MDI object to create all my document windows. I'm
using GnomeMDIGenericChild for the childs. When I call
gnome_mdi_add_toplevel_view, a toplevel window is created by the gnome
libs, containing the child, with menus, but *no status bar* (or app bar)
is created. 
  Isn't there a function to do this automatically? Don't tell me I have to
create one manually...
