installed applet is not added to menue

I have compiled the ledcounter applet and it works fine, as long as I
start it by hand. But trying to add it by clicking the footmenue button
does not show me it is installed.

For installing I had to manually copy the bin-file, the .gnorba-file,
the pixmap-file and the .desktop-file to their places. But still there
is no entry in the footmenue.

Do I have to tell some program to check the directories again or do I
have to configure some file?
