Problem with panel applets

Since yesterday, I experiment a problem with my panel applets :
they seem to be unable to read their config files
~/.gnome/panel.d/Session-<X>/Applet_<n>_Extern
- and it's the same with all users...
I upgraded my orbit packages a few days ago - may that be the reason ?
