Hello,
I was wondering if some of you out there could help me out. I just installed
RH6 and I told it to install Gnome. Now when I log in and do a netstat -a I
don't see any tcp ports that are active. But when I startx, and get gnome
working, and do a netstat in my xterm, I get all sorts of ports over 1000
running in addition to the normal port 2000 that the window manager runs on.
Here's my question: is there any way to turn all of those ports off or
alternatively, not allow anybody from the outside world to access them? I
want as secure a system as possible. Is there a flag for compilation maybe
that lets me get rid of those ports? I can't seem to find any answers in the
documentation, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
Thanks,
Derek
