how to play audio cd

Hello,

I suspect this difficulty is not specific to gnome, but certain gnome
components seem to be involved.  I'm running gnome with the latest
rpms from Redhat 6.0.  Sound events, x11amp all work fine.  Gtcd
starts and indicates that it is playing an audio cd (and the light on
the cd bay lights up), but there is no sound.  Esd says it is on
autostandby, but the problem is not solved by placing it explicitly
into standby state.

Any suggestions?
