more than one desktop

how one can create more than one desktop (not virtual desktops == 'desktop
areas') in GNOME?
I'm sure it should be possible to do this, but I couldn't find any answer to
this question neither in FAQs nor in GNOME User's Guide. Unfortunatelly
something like "GNOME HOWTO" doesn't exist at all.
