You're right that having GNOME seperated from the window manager is a cool
thing, in that we can select our own window managers. But I definitely
think Dr. Mike is onto something here. Especially perceptionally, from a
newcomer's perspective. There are a lot of pieces of software running
cooperatively to do what we want to get done, but we want these things to
operate as transparently together as we can. As it is now, it is very
obvious that the window manager and GNOME are two seperate things, and
from a newcomer's perspective it gives GNOME (or Linux in general,
probably) the appearance of being hacked together sort of piecemeal. I
think Dr. Mike's idea is for more of a fluid integration.

The two points to think about are, in my opinion:
  1/ Seperate of window manager and GNOME is a Good Thing
  2/ Giving the appearance that they're the one unit is a Good Thing
