Enlightenment and Gnome Panel on XINERAMA

Hi all,

Well, I finally have an Xserver on my twin-headed system that allows me to use
the XINERAMA extension on the 2 8-bit graphics cards I have.

I runs CDE, OpenWindows and KDE very well. I get a "desktop" of 2560x1024
spread over the 2 screens, and can drag windows as if they were just 1 big
screen. Getting centered windows split between the 2 screens is irritating, but
otherwise all is cool =O)

But not with Gnome, Enlightenment or Window Maker. =O(

Panel just dies with an "Abort - Bad Drawable". Enlightenment and WM think
they're OK, but the graphics are badly damaged. With WM it's just a colourmap
issue, I think.

For Enlightenment, I think I see what Raster meant about how he was forcing
aspect ratios rather than calculating them. All the images are getting
completely fragged. Where you'd expect to see the images, there's a snow storm.
And they're not being placed in the right place relative to the desktop, either.

Again, I think there's also a colormap issue, but I tried starting X forcing it
to TrueColor, DirectColor and PseudoColor, and none of them helped =O(

To be honest, I'm not sure I *want* to use this extension. 8-bit framebuffers
have a small enough colour count as it is, and I get a few more by running apps
that use a lot on different screens. Share the screens on one display, and you
have to register all colours used on both colourmaps at the same time. Plus I
may be getting an Elite3D soon, and I don't want to hold a 24-bit card down to
8-bit just so I can drag windows back and forth =OZ

Still, I thought I should mention this now, rather than wait for someone else to
hit it =O) I'm going to try to find time to play with this and get some better
GDB output of the problems. I'll let you know.

Thanks,
