I thought this was such a good idea, I decided to implement a panel applet
that can do this. I will be releasing it as an example with the next
version of gnome-python (out RSN), which adds support for writing panel
applets and control-center applets and allows you to use python's
threading support while in the GTK's main loop.
I will put out the new version soon, so you will have to wait for it
though.
