Go back to the point where you were prompted by the above statement and
enter your root password. At the root prompt, execute fsck.ext2  <device>
(example: /dev/hdb2 [whatever partition your Linux was on]) and answer yes
to all the questions. Linux will act like a colossal catastrophe struck,
but it's a very detailed precautionary OS designed to safeguard your
system.

If you are able, keep backups of your files. File recovery is possible, but
works on an inode process that is very complicated if you're not familiar
with inodes.

Two OS on the same drive will complicate OS matters. If you're able, put OS
systems of different types on different hard drives. While in the interim,
OSs on the same drive may look wonderful, but each OS has its own set of
rules when crashes and corruptions occur.
