Installing over should be fine so long as you don't mind some wasted
space.  All the old version of the libraries never get removed or over
written.  'make uninstall' is the cleaner way to do it, but they both
work.

If you do 'make uninstall' you may break a few programs that were stupid
when they linked...I think.
