Midnight Commander 4.5.0 has been released

Hello guys,

Midnight Commander 4.5.0 has been released.

This is the development version of the Midnight Commander, it has
gone trough a number of radical changes (specially the vfs layer,
which uses a different syntax). If you want a stable release of the
Midnight Commander use 4.1.35 or the soon to be released 4.1.36.

As you might know, most of the development of the Midnight
Commander now takes place on the GNOME CVS repository. You can always
check out the latest version from the gnome cvs repository (check
http://www.gnome.org/ for details on using the CVS).

The Midnight Commander web page has also moved, it is now hosted at
http://www.gnome.org/mc.

You can fetch this release of the Midnight Commander from the usual
place: ftp://ftp.nuclecu.unam.mx/linux/local/devel/mc-4.5.0.tar.gz or
you can get it from ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources.

What has changed from 4.1.35 to 4.5.0:

o OS/2 and Windows NT ports merged. (Pavel Roskin).

   o Virtual file system changes

The virtual file system went trough a batch of changes to
fix our handling of nested file systems. The new setup designed
by Pavel Machek is documented in the doc/mc.sgml file.

The ftp case is special cased, so that you can still type
ftp-like urls (this is converted internally to the nwe format).

o New fish virtual file system (Pavel Machek).

The fish virtual file system works on top of an existing rsh/ssh
setup, this means you can now transfer your files between systems
that do not have an ftp server or if you want to do secure file
     transfers (ssh).

Use "cd /#sh:remote-system/" to connect to the remote system.

This will use the ssh program by default. There are a couple of
flags understood, they are "C" for enabling compression and "r"
to force the usage of "rsh" instead of "ssh". You have to append
the flags at the end of the hostname, like this:

	"cd /#shremote-system:C"

o Various fixed and enhacements to the FTP file system. (Norbert
     Warmuth)

This fixes various of the bugs reported on empty listing on some
     servers.

Improved the logic to retrieve directories and symbolic links.
     Pretty cool code.

o CoolEdit now ships with a Gtk edition which is used on the GNOME
     port.

o ETA/time comptuation is available for all of the file systems
     now.

   o Many many bugs fixed.

Thanks to all the mc team for updating/maintaining the Midnight
Commander during the last months. I have been working on the
GNOME project, and have not been able to hack as much as I wanted
the Midnight Commander. The major contributors to this release
are: Janne Kukonlehto, Norbert Warmuth, Paul Sheer, Pavel Roskin,
Pavel Machek, Timur Bakeyev and Tom Tromey.

The good news is that I wrote a free spreadsheet as part of the
     GNOME project, look here:

     for more details.

Best wishes,
Miguel.
