libGtop in a tarball?

Can we get this to work with 0.30 utils?  I've never been able to get
anything to compile from CVS, and this was otherwise the easiest
compiling Gnome out of the tarball box of the three I've seen so far.  What
needs to be done here to get this to work (other than CVS or daily
snapshots)?

Some change earlier had broken the applets in my 0.26./0.28.1
install.  Now I've got the applets but not the system monitoring
application, for which I happily sacrificed the applets before.

Couple of the older programs do compile quite nicely with 0.30 --
xwhois and gnorpm. gEdit doesn't.
