Misc. newbie problems

On my previous system I had gnome 0.27 working great - now I've upgraded
and reinstalled (don't ask why I did't just copy the contents of my old
hd - doh!) some bits don't work. E.g.

[root@c233 /root]# gnome-linuxconf
gnome-linuxconf: error in loading shared libraries
/usr/lib/libgnomeui.so.0: undefined symbol: GTK_TYPE_GDK_COLOR

[root@c233 /root]# gnomecc
message: pos_menubar: 0

** ERROR **: file tree.c: line 68 (merge_nodes): "node1 != NULL"
Aborted (core dumped)

Everything else (gimp, ee, gterm, background-properties, etc) works fine -
I'm tearing my hair out trying to think what I've done wrong. I've removed
everything a reinstalled (twice), I've made sure to rpm -ivh
gtk+-1.1.1-1.i386.rpm, and I can't think of anything else.

Can anyone help?

Paul

PS - Is there a rpm with libgdk-1.1.so.0 and libgtk-1.1.so.0 in as these
are needed by grpm-0.1-2.i386.rpm - it would be ironic if grpm could not
be installed by rpms.
