Compiling gnome-libs from cvs

When I try to compile gnome-libs from cvs for the past couple of days, I
get the mess of errors posted at the end of the message.  Does anyone have
a suggestion here?  I have tried all the usual stuff and some not so
usual stuff, yet seem to be unable to get anything to work here.
