Linux (Redhat 5.0 + some updates).  No, glib/.libs/libglib-1.1.so does not
exist.  There are no error messages, per se.  Configure peristantly
reports that libtool does not support shared libraries, contrary to
what libtool itself says.  I cannot get it to not do this, and I've
tried many things.  Automake, autoconf and libtool are up to date.
Yes, old versions of glib/gtk+ are installed, in a different location
(/usr/local rather than /opt/gnome)

I did, I just summarized it.  It was three lines, total, that said
that there were undefined references to three things, that you snipped
from your message.  That was pretty much it, aside from printing the
entire text of the program.

I tend to agree that the shared libs are the problem.
