have a look at pathetic writer which is part siag. I'm pretty sire this
is rtf.

Don't know about gnome. Jeff Meininger jeffm@boxybutgood.com might be
interested in sharing reader-writer code. His interest is coming from
WindowMaker so I don't think he'd be interested in the widget part.
