This sounds like you have upgraded to the new Gtk+ which has a new DnD
API and a new DnD protocol.
If you do so, you will need to use the GNOME as found on the CVS
server. Please note that the GNOME code on the CVS is right now in
flux, as this week applications are being ported to use the new DnD.
