gmc - configure problems

Ok, when  I try to configure gmc, I get the following error:

./configure: syntax error near unexpected token `;,'
./configure: ./configure: line 2521: `AC_TRY_WARNINGS(#include <crypt.h>, char *p = crypt("xxx", "yyy");,'

Any ideas. I have the file, (crypt.h), I guess everybody has it, as it seams to be part of linux. Any ideas on at least how to disable this test.
