As far as i understand the explorer in MS-Windows95 is actually a core
task which needs to be always running, but not necessarily with an
opened window.  Just hit ctr-alt-del once in Win95 and shut down only
the explorer task.  You will immediately notice that Win95 itself goes
down.  So in comparison there is no big deal with gmc always being
present.  You don't have to have a window open all the time anyway.
Luckily it is not as bloated as KDE's KFM, which tends to eat large
parts of your precious memory without being half as good a filemanager
as gmc is promising to be.
