libpng versions

gimp .99.29 wants an older libpng (comes w/ redhat 5, libpng.so.0), while
gnome requires a newer one (libpng.so.2). As far as I can tell gimp still
works fine w/ the newer libpng, but complains all the time....is it just
more or is this sort of like a dll problem on windows? :-(

Or is there a newer version that I don't have?
