newbie Gnome install problems

I followed the installation instructions, installing the RPM's in the
specified order. However when I try to install the gtk+ RPM it tells me
it needs 'glib', I suppose it means I have to install the glibc stuff
but after that it still gives me the same error.
What am I doing wrong?
