I'm not sure if you are aware, but there is already a unix hotline client.
It's a terminal based client that behaves much like an irc client.  I'm in
the middle of learning gnome/gtk and will be starting a GUI version for X.
If/when I make any progress, I'll inform everyone.

The code is GPL for hx & hxd (the unix client/server) and was a clean-room
port.  Still, I'm not sure on the legalness of such a project, but it
seems similar to lesstif and freeqt. (?)

The people at Hotline, Inc. are most certainly disappointed about this, so
I think it'd be best if they didn't get lots of email about this.
