gnome-utils support directory error?

In the gnome-utils module from CVS, the support directory does not exist.
So all sorts of nasty things happen (1 autogen.sh creates it.  2 the Makefile
that gets created in there is empty.  3 make fails because of this.  4 adding
empty targets in there leaves me with:
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `../support/libsupport.a', needed by
`gncal'.  Stop.
