segv on starting gnome-help-browser

I'm getting a SegFault as soon as I try to invoke gnome-help-browser.
strace shows that it attempts to read a gnome-help-browserrc file from
several places without luck and then does the following:
mkdir("/home/badger/.gnome", 0755)      = -1 EEXIST (File exists)
brk(0x807f000)                          = 0x807f000
brk(0x8080000)                          = 0x8080000
brk(0x8081000)                          = 0x8081000

brk(0x8086000)                          = 0x8086000
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) ---
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) ---
getpid()                                = 618
kill(618, SIGSEGV)                      = 0
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) ---
getpid()                                = 618
kill(618, SIGSEGV)                      = 0

The "--- SIGSEGV" section is repeated several thousand times.

Any clues anyone? I'm using the latest CVS of gnome-core and latest gtk+, but
my gnome-libs is a day old....
