Depends on what you mean.  The GNOME RPMs might work, but probably not, I
would suspect that Caldera Linux Lite 1.1 probably has some key libraries
at versions too old to work with the precompiled binaries.

On the other hand, provided you get all the libraries in place (see
http://www.gnome.org/start) it should compile with little to no problems.
Note, it does not say so on the page, but the version of Automake
absolutely, positively must be at least version 1.3; it is avaliable
pretty much everywhere.
