panel drawer + menu

Who again is working on a menu editor?  I'd like to see how that's coming
along.  For me it is pretty important.  I think it would be nice if I
could put my own menus not only in a submenu on the main panel menu, but
also all by themselves on the panel.  That way I can make up my own 
categories and put the things I want in them without always having to dive
into a million submenus, which is awkward and adds effort.

Another thing:  what in the world is the panel drawer supposed to do?  I
thought it would be like the wharf, with possibly a bunch of buttons and
what-have-you sliding out, but I can't see any way to do anything with it.
