The Debian package is compiled with a 2.7 vintage g++. Debian also
offers gcc as standard C compiler and egcs as standard C++
compiler, but in addition to that also offers all the other
permutations, with corresponding libraries.

So you could try the "alien" package on the Debian jade package, or
else find a g++ and compile jade yourself.

The idea is that the first face shown to people is one they can readily
accept - a more traditional logo. The lunacy element is only revealed
subsequently, via the LunaDude. [excerpted from the Lunatech Identity Manual]
