Stop it right there. Before you get the socks library, ask whether your system
managers (or better the Internet admins) even installed a socks-server. If
they did, then go and get the latest socks sources from 
http://www.socks.nec.com and install them. If you don't have a socks server
running in your company, the whole idea of going to install them will give you
nothing - in that case, maybe just go and ask them what other proxies they
have, or whether it would be possible for them to allow transparent access to
CVS servers outside your company from within the company...
