I agree this would be cool.
I think it could easily be done by using the generic event service.
When an app opens a file, it could post an event saying "file xxx
opened" (or URL xxx). Likewise it would post such an event when the
file is closed. The yellow stickies program could notice such events
and use them to do the right thing.
This could partially be hidden by the recently-used code.
