config.status sed errors in 0.99

when I try to configure gnome-libs, and config.status is called, I
recieve
a series of messages akin to the following:

sed: file conftest.s2 line 40: Unterminated 's' command

the script runs, and config.h is created, but the Makefiles that are
generated
are all of length zero.  I updated my sed to the latest version, with no
luck.

Is it possible that there is a problem with my .m4 files in
/usr/share/aclocal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am anxious to give gnome a
spin.
