All the ones that would benefit from Gnome do, probably. But even so - if
they are remotely Posix or X/Open or otherwise close to standard Unix,
Gnome can probably be made to work with a few relatively minor changes.

It may be "bad" in some academic sense, but it works, and the same can not
be said for your solution.

This is not what we want. We want it to work on all these systems, and
within a reasonable timeframe. You may not want that. But your conclusion
does not follow, given our goals.
