Silly CVS problem

I thought I had figured out all my CVS problems. I was wrong:
loading cache ./config.cache
./configure: syntax error near unexpected token `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(atech,'
./configure: ./configure: line 522: `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(atech, 0.1.4)'
This is so silly, I should know the answer. Any ideas? AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE is
defined in my system-wide .m4 files, re'autoconf'ing and automake'ing work
without complaint.
