panel dying at startup

I just did a completely clean build out of CVS, and now, when I start
the panel, it dies before displaying anything. Running it under gdb reveals
the largest stack I've ever seen:

reflections% gdb panel ~/gnome/cvs/gnome-core/panel

By my reading, this implies that the error is, of all places, in g_logv,
which I am guessing is glib's logging feature. I'll see if I can track
it down further.

If anyone has any suggestions, then I would love to hear them.
