Compiling problems

Hi! I'm fairly new to Linux and I'm trying to compile Gnome-0.27 on
Slackware-3.5 distribution.
  (Sorry for my english, I speak french...)

I compiled the following packages:
  autoconf-2.12
  automake-1.3
  esound-0.2.1
  gsl-0.3b
  glib-1.1.2
  gtk+-1.1.1

They all did compile without error.  But when I try to compile imlib-
1.4 or gnome-libs-0.27, the configure says that my GTK lib is not
installed.  I tried a ldconfig, a make clean, I recompiled GTK
several times, no error!

What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help!
