Missing directories in CVS...

Greetings,
   I'm having trouble building a fresh checkout from the anonymous
CVS repository.  It seems that the following directories don't exist
in the repository:
    * gnome-libs/libvfs
    * gnome-libs/macros
    * gnome-libs/intl
    * gnome-libs/support

I've tried explicitly retrieving them, but to no avail:

88>cvs update -d gnome-libs/libvfs gnome-libs/macros gnome-libs/intl \
                 gnome-libs/support
cvs server: nothing known about gnome-libs/libvfs
cvs server: nothing known about gnome-libs/macros
cvs server: nothing known about gnome-libs/intl
cvs server: nothing known about gnome-libs/support

These directories exist (and contain source) in the pre-packaged 
source tars.

Am I doing something wrong?
