but generalised it solves the "limited colors" case, saves having to
generate palettes for icons etc. etc. etc. :)

xpm is 1. and abigous format, 2. inefficient (for small icon images
24-bit rgb will infact be smaller). I wouldn't dream of using xpm for
ANYTHING except inlined code.
