Hi there, You guys may be aware that Carphone Warehouse are knocking
out Linux notebooks to all and sundry, and so that’s great for exposure
of Linux to the world, but awful for unsuspecting users who are used to the
comfort of Windows and expect this free gift to be the same. Anyway, I have been setting up one of these notebooks for an
elderly friend, which has Gnome. It has been working fine except that it will
not store the WEP key for WiFi connection to a router. Once it is entered, a
dialog box pops up requesting a password for the ‘nm-applet’
mentioning the default keyring, and it is locked. Now this is a new toy, so the default password may well be
the original system setting, but I’ve tried using the login password, and
I’ve tried ‘password’ and I’ve tried entering nothing.
None of these work. Does anyone know what the out-of-the-box password is for
this, or if not, how to reset it. And please, I’m a real techie but I
know nothing about Linux so could you explain in terms that an outsider might
understand? Many thanks, Phil |
