help with visual config

I would like to run an application that requires dynamic colormaps (e.g.
via PseudoColor visual) from a Gnome --  Enlightenment -- XFree86 X
environment.  This is running on a Tosheba Tecra 8100 with the S3 Savage
chip.

Help, pointers, referrals gratefully accepted.
