Hi,

freedesktop.org is different from gnome-kde-list in some important
ways:

 - in principle it's not limited to gnome and kde, though that's 
   the primary immediate motivation
 - it's a work project, not a diplomacy thing; we have CVS, and 
   are focused on creating docs and code
