500 Developers excepted at GNOME Conference in Vilanova

The 7th GUADEC will be held from 24th to 30th of June in Vilanova, Catalonia/Spain. In co-operation with the Telcommunications and Information Society office of the Catalan government the week will be one of the leading developers conferences around Free and Open Source software this year.
The official program will be split into three phases: The Approach Weekend (24th & 25th), GUADEC Core (26th to 28th) and After Hours (29th and 30th). In addition, the Core days will have three simultaneous tracks, called Showcase, Topaz (GNOME 3.0) and Tangle.
GUADEC ? One week of future
Opening keynote will be presented by Jeff Waugh. The international leading developer works on Ubuntu business and community development for Canonical.
Waugh is an active member of the Free Software community, holding positions such as Chairman of the Annodex Foundation (2006), Director of the GNOME Foundation Board (2003-2004, 2006), GNOME Release Manager (2001-2005), committee member (2000-2001) and president (2002-2003) of the Sydney Linux Users' Group, and member of the linux.conf.au 2001 organising team. In 2005, he won the Google/O'Reilly Open Source award for Best Evangelist. Waugh is a card-carrying member of Linux Australia.
Following keynotes at GUADEC 2006 concering about ?Creating Passionate Users?, ?Freedom: Reality and Illusion?, ?GNOME ? How much faster??, ?Big GNOME Deployments: the GnuLinEx and Guadalinex Use Cases? and ? Free Software at Sun Microsystems?.
The core slots are reporting about GNOME with Bluetooth and using Voice over IP with Ekiga (mobile solutions), organizing digital pictures with F-Spot and searching documents with Beagle (desktop solutions), the new GTK+ printing API, GTK+ 2.0 and databases with GLOME (backend solutions). African developers will be arriving from Nigeria and South Africa. Americans are coming from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Mexico and the U. S. Also representatives are registered from Australia and New Zealand, China, India and Mongolia.
Up to 500 people will be guest at the Political University of Catalonia (UPC) in Vilanova, 45 km south of Barcelona. Most of them are living together in bungalows at Vilanova Park (live.gnome.org/GUADEC2006/GNOMEVillage). About 50 of them will be sponsored participants of GUADEC Committee and The GNOME Foundation.

500 Softwareentwickler zur GNOME-Konferenz in Vilanova erwartet

Die 7. GUADEC wird vom 24. bis 30. Juni in der Katalonischen Stadt Vilanova in Spanien stattfinden. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Büro für die Informations. und Kommunikationsgesellschaft der katalanischen Provinzregierung wird die einwöchige Veranstaltung eine der führenden Entwicklerkonferenzen des Jahres rund um Freie und Open Source Software sein.
Das offizielle Programm wird in drei Phasen untergliedert werden: Das "Kennenlern-Wochenende" (24.+25.06.), die "GUADEC-Kernkonferenz" (26. bis 28.06.) und die "After Hours" (29. und 30.06.). An den Kerntagen werden jeweils drei parallele Vortragsreihen mit den Titeln "Showcase" (Präsentationen), "Topaz" (GNOME 3.0)
und "Tangle" (Gemischtes) stattfinden.
GUADEC - Eine Woche Zukunft
Der Eröffnungsvortrag (Keynote) wird von Jeff Waugh gehalten. Der international führende Softwareentwickler arbeitet für Ubuntu und die Community-Entwicklung bei Canonical.
Waugh ist ein aktives Mitglied der Freien Software Community mit weltweit zahlreichen Aufgaben, z.
