Unfortunately, no one has been working on Ekiga since a few years, as you noticed. I think this project is dead currently. Of course, nobody knows if someone will take over it in the future. However, a big drawback is that it heavily depends on ptlib and opal, two huge and complex libraries which introduce bugs, and change API and obsoletes code (with improved protocols) very often; this means that Ekiga must always be adapted to latest ptlib/opal code, which is time-hungry.
