I have been working on a new virtual globe library called "libgis" for
about a year and would like to make it available for other developers to
use or contribute to. I asked what I should do in #gnome-love on
irc.gnome.org and andre suggested that I could host my code on
git.gnome.org.

I read the instructions at http://live.gnome.org/Git/NewRepository and they
told me to send an email to svnmaster gnome org I did so and my email bounced
back saying I should open a ticket here.

Anyway, I think this is all the relevant information..

> The requested repository name (i.e. 'mynewproject').

libgis

> A brief description of what the software does.

libgis draws a picture of the earth using OpenGL. It allows you to move
about and view different parts of the earth. This is similar to Google
Earth and NASA World Wind. libgis also provides a simple plugin API and
a data access functions so applications using libgis can extend it's
capabilities. It is used by AWeather (see homepage(s)).

> Whether you consider your project meets the ProjectPrerequisites.
> - The project must be free/open source software

It is licenced under version 3 of the GNU General Public License.

> - It must use GTK+/GNOME technologies

It uses gtk as the toolkit, and glib as the main library. It also uses
libsoup and gtkglext.

> - It must be maintained, and already have had at least one public release

I have been working on libgis for roughly a year. Older releases (prior
to 0.3) were bundled with AWeather. The last release was in November,
but the git repository is still active. I would like to make a 0.4
release but would like to have the git repository moved before doing so.=20

> - To the best of your knowledge, it must not infringe on patents

There are several other free software projects that use similar
technologies. Notable NASA World Wind and KDE marble. The data used by
libgis is provided by the US Government and OpenStreetMap and is freely
available.
