Sounds peachy :) I am surprised to hear that the debian accounts have
passwords and are not exclusivly keys.

This is not the first time a Debian server is compromised, and the last
time it happened it was much worse. As far as I can tell, both times it
was a combination of a developer password being sniffed together with a
rootkit, and that is exactly the reason gnome.org users do not have
passwords.
