Following the instructions results in 'voices' branch not being available in 'voices/', so I suggest checking-out voices branch before cloning gcompris to voices

git clone git://git.gnome.org/gcompris

cd gcompris

git checkout voices

git checkout master

cd ..

git clone -l gcompris voices

cd voices

git checkout -b voices origin/voices

cd ../gcompris/boards

ln -s ../../voices .

I followed the instructions there, but I get

nazgul rivendell:/git/gnome/voices$ LANG=C git checkout -b voices
origin/voices
fatal: Cannot update paths and switch to branch 'voices' at the same
time.
Did you intend to checkout 'origin/voices' which can not be resolved as
commit?


However, if I run that command in the gcompris folder it works.
