it's tasks.

in this context, "uniqueness" means that each application maps to a
single process, regardless of the number of invocations from the
application launcher or the terminal; this has nothing to do with the
number of windows an application has or controls. to provide a GNOME
example: gedit and gnome-terminal are "unique" applications; for a
non-GNOME example: Firefox or Chrome are "unique" applications.
