Double space in original messages

Some modules have double spaces (" ") in the original messagens,
usually between two sentences (after a dot). Example from
gnome-control-center:

"No Assistive Technology is available on your system. The 'gok'
package must be installed in order to get on-screen keyboard support,
and the 'orca' package must be installed for screenreading and
magnifying capabilities."

Some times the spaces are clearly used to fill the interface, and then
the translator has no option but repeating them. In the example and
similar messages, are the double spaces necessary?

Thanks!
