LINGUAS (was: Re: Problem of adding translation to gnome)

Abel, I hope you don't mind me copying this to the list, but I might not be the only person who doesn't know this. :)

Just a quick note. I see you have been working hard to add
translation to gnome cvs, but simply adding translation is not
enough. You have to tell software to BUNDLE it as well, otherwise
it is simply not included into tarball at all. :-)

I had no idea of this. :(

Thankyou for telling me. :)

To do this, you have to check these 2 cases one by one:

1. If the file "po/LINGUAS" exists (such as epiphany), it lists all the
locale names to be bundled. You should add "vi" to the list (preferably
alphabetically sorted).

OK, I can do this.

2. If (1) is not true, then check configure.in or configure.ac in parent
directory, and look for the line containing "ALL_LINGUAS=". All of the
locale names are listed after equal sign, and as the same, add "vi"
to the list.

I usually don't checkout the parent directory. :(

This means I'll have to do more of that. I'm not a Gnome user, you see (MacOSX). And I really don't have room on my disk for all these extra checkouts.

What a pain. :(

Can't we ask the developers to update their list when they roll their tarball?

I imagine all the files I've only updated will be OK, but the ones I've translated for the first time ... there are a lot, and they probably haven't been available in the Gnome 2.12 release at all!

Thankyou very much for your help. :)

Happy New Year!

Thankyou, but you and I have New Year at the same time: not yet. :)

ChÃc máng NÄm Mái (Happy New Year) in advance!
