Hi translators,
NOTE: If you don't have any translated documentation, you need not
worry about following.
Yelp contains a couple of messages using character references like:
#: stylesheets/l10n.xml.in.h:1
msgid "‘"
#: stylesheets/l10n.xml.in.h:2
msgid "’"
#: stylesheets/l10n.xml.in.h:3
msgid "“"
#: stylesheets/l10n.xml.in.h:4
msgid "”"
These are single- and double- starting and ending quotes, and I guess
they should be translated as such, according to your language rules.
In Serbian in particular, we use "„" and "“" for double quotes.
Because of some mess-ups with XML handling in intltool, you cannot
use entities to translate this. So, my previous translation of
#: stylesheets/l10n.xml.in.h:3
msgid "“"
msgstr "„"
#: stylesheets/l10n.xml.in.h:4
msgid "”"
msgstr "“"
is WRONG! You *MUST* use direct UTF-8 there, or you'll get crap in
translations (because of aforementioned intltool breakage, which
cannot be fixed now -- it's incompatible change, and we're deep into
freezes already).
I'll include interesting UTF-8 characters here, but you should
probably look them up using gucharmap:
‘ ’ ‚ ‛ “ ” „ ‟ ‹ › « »
I think these are most common quote characters.
Cheers,
Danilo
